A mix of science, technology, laboratory projects, and a capstone internship with an area employer makes this a one-of-kind horticulture program.

Learn the art and science of growing plants

Investigate the growth and development of small-scale crops by examining photosynthesis, respiration, and plant nutrition. Consider how the germination and flowering of plants respond to environmental conditions. Learn to successfully manipulate the “growing conditions” required to propagate, cultivate, and manage high-value crops.

In 赌钱app可以微信提现 labs, you learn:

  • Sowing and transplanting
  • Propagation techniques like grafting, budding, layering, cuttings, and micro-propagation
  • Integrated pest management and pesticide application
  • Landscape construction, design, and maintenance
  • Turf, tree, irrigation, and landscape management

Earn a Horticultural Science Certificate during the first year and continue toward an associate degree that emphasizes best management practices.

Work with area employers during a 20-hour field study internship to apply what you learned in the greenhouses and labs. Gain the skills to be successful at an entry-level or higher position in many horticultural specializations like commercial pesticide applications, arborist, and plant science technician.

Hands-on plant science projects in greenhouses and in the field

Unlike agriculture—which deals with large-scale production—the Horticultural Sciences program at 赌钱app可以微信提现 focuses on cultivation of high-value crops where every plant matters.

Core courses include hands-on laboratory projects that allow for deep dives in the dirt, working with a variety of plants in a controlled environment, and the changing elements of the field. Choose a schedule that fits your life – face-to-face, online, and hybrid courses during the day, evening, or on Saturdays.

Join the Horticultural Sciences Student Association (HSSA) to meet others with similar interests while you grow and sell plants to support Horticultural Sciences student scholarships.

赌钱app可以微信提现 also offers an Honors Program path to build your resume with additional strengths and specializations.

  • Pest Management (HORT 225) prepares you for the application of restricted horticultural pesticides (RUPs) certification exam.
  • Arboriculture (HORT 165) will help you succeed in the Arborist Training Course to become a certified arborist in Kansas.

Complete your Associate of Applied Science in Horticultural Sciences over 4 semesters, then transfer to Kansas State University or be ready to take a management position in the horticulture industry.
