Learn to develop, install, and maintain automated systems for industries
Through hands-on experience with electrical, mechanical, and computerized equipment, you will:
- Understand how machines use electricity, air pressure, and fluids to work.
- Troubleshoot and solve machinery or equipment problems.
- Learn how industrial robots are used in manufacturing.
- Test machines for efficiency and performance.
- Adjust and calibrate equipment and lubricate machinery.
- Master the tools, codes, and techniques, like LAN cabling and programmable logic controllers (PLCs), that are used every day on the job.

Classes are taught by faculty who have many years of experience in the industry and can help you make the right contacts to begin your AET career. You will use the same tools and learn techniques of AET pros in the state-of-the-art labs and classrooms in the Hugh L. Libby Career and Technical Education Center (CTEC).
Interactive learning is crucial to this line of work. The AET curriculum incorporates labs that allow you to practice special techniques. In class, you will practice cabling, installing and other technical skills required in this profession.
After completing the program, you will take an exam to become an automation engineering technician. Technicians work closely with electrical and mechanical engineers.
